The Legend of the Serpent Leaves
A Grimmveil Legend ⚜️
Long ago, in the mist-wrapped valleys of Vyrndralis, a kingdom of towering black-stone spires and rivers that glimmered like liquid sapphire, there ruled a young prince named Kaelion of Vyrndralis. He was known for his courage, his sharp mind, and the strength of his Silverveined blood, which made him resilient to most forms of magic.
Kaelion loved a maiden of unmatched beauty and wit, Lyris of the Moonlit Glens. Their union was celebrated across the kingdom, but fate is never content with joy alone. On their wedding night, Lyris fell victim to a curse of unknown origin and died in the prince’s arms.
Devastated, Kaelion remembered an ancient legend: three Serpent Leaves, said to grow in the hidden Caverns of Whispering Scales, could restore life if used with courage and precision. The leaves were poisonous and delicate; misstep could mean death instead of resurrection. Kaelion set out alone, guided by moonlight and the whispers of Silverveined spirits that lingered along the paths.
The Quest for the Leaves
He crossed the Twilight Marshes, where mists licked the ground and spectral snakes slithered unseen, and climbed the Obsidian Cliffs, whose sheer walls were slick with frozen rain. Within the Caverns of Whispering Scales, Kaelion found the three leaves, glowing faintly with green fire. A serpent guardian with sapphire eyes hissed, demanding his courage and loyalty to the maiden he loved.
Kaelion spoke words of truth and devotion, and the guardian bowed. He plucked the leaves, careful not to tear their fragile veins. With the leaves in hand, he returned to Lyris’s resting place and, under the light of the full moon, used the ancient ritual. Lyris’s chest rose, breath spilling like wind over still water. She was alive.
Betrayal Revealed
But resurrection carries its price. Lyris’s heart, now touched by death, had shifted. She no longer loved Kaelion as before. She coveted the power of Vyrndralis itself, plotting to claim the kingdom and betray the prince who had saved her.
Kaelion, though wounded by the betrayal, was no fool. He consulted the Silverveined seers of Vyrndralis Court, who guided him to bind Lyris with the Chains of Gossamer Shadow, enchanted links that constrained her without harming her life. Yet he allowed her freedom in the mortal world, testing her loyalty with patience and vigilance.
Some say Lyris vanished into the Veilwood, taking only whispers and shadows with her. Others say she wanders the hidden rivers of Vyrndralis, seeking to reclaim power. Kaelion remained, strengthened by the trial, ruling wisely and ensuring that resurrection and loyalty were never taken lightly again.
