The Legend of Pyrralis, the Emberwing
A Grimmveil Legend ⚜
The Kingdom of Golden Orchards
Long ago, when the southern glens of Grimmveil shimmered beneath endless autumn skies, there existed a kingdom unlike any other.
Aurenglade.
A realm of jewel-bright orchards, crystal rivers, and ancient magic, Aurenglade was ruled by the Silverveined Tsar of Goldvein, whose gardens held the legendary Sunfruit.
The golden apples of Aurenglade were said to contain the heartbeat of the land itself.
They nourished the forests.
They restored dying magic.
They carried the warmth of the sun into the darkest winters.
But one season, the orchards began to fade.
Each morning, as the first rays of light touched the treetops, a brilliant flame crossed the sky.
One by one, the Sunfruit disappeared.
Those who witnessed the creature claimed it was a bird unlike any known throughout Grimmveil.
Wings of living flame.
Eyes like molten sapphire.
A song that carried ancient magic.
They called it:
Pyrralis, the Emberwing.
The Prince of Goldvein
Desperate to save the orchards, the Tsar summoned his most determined heir.
Prince Aurelian Goldvein.
Aurelian was known throughout the kingdom for his courage, but more importantly, for his compassion. He believed a ruler’s duty was not to command the land.
It was to understand it.
“Bring me the Emberwing,” the Tsar commanded, “and discover why our kingdom suffers. The fate of Aurenglade rests upon this journey.”
Aurelian departed with his loyal companions:
Rhovan, a Silverveined wolf-born tracker whose instincts could rival the creatures of the wild.
Lyria, a shadow-weaver capable of moving unseen beneath moonlight and communicating with enchanted beings.
And his faithful steed, Stormmane, whose thunderous steps carried them beyond the borders of the kingdom.
Their journey led them through golden forests, across rivers that flowed with enchanted quartz, and into the ancient heights of the Crimson Peaks, where legends claimed the Emberwing had made its home.
The Trial of the Emberwing
At the summit of the Crimson Peaks, the air itself seemed to ignite.
From the clouds descended Pyrralis.
The Emberwing burned brighter than any flame Aurelian had ever seen.
The prince lifted the enchanted silver net he carried, woven with frost magic and starlight.
But before he could move, the Emberwing spoke.
“Will you capture what you do not understand?”
The mountain changed.
Illusions surrounded them.
Aurelian saw his father’s failing kingdom.
He saw the throne waiting for him.
He saw his companions calling for help.
The Emberwing was not attacking.
It was testing.
Rhovan, blinded by ambition, rushed forward.
“If we capture the creature, the reward will belong to us!”
But the moment his hands reached toward the Emberwing, the mountain erupted with flame.
Pyrralis released a cry that shook the skies.
Rhovan was thrown backward, his armor scorched, but the creature spared his life.
Aurelian understood.
The Emberwing was not stealing from Aurenglade.
It was protecting something.
The Truth of the Sunfruit
Lowering his weapon, Aurelian stepped forward.
“You have taken what belongs to the land,” he said. “But perhaps the land was never ours to own.”
The Emberwing watched him carefully.
“You came seeking a prize,” Pyrralis said.
“I came seeking understanding.”
The flames surrounding the creature softened into golden light.
For the first time in centuries, the Emberwing allowed a mortal hand to touch its feathers.
“The Sunfruit was never stolen,” Pyrralis revealed. “The orchards were weakening because your kingdom forgot the old ways. The fruit must be shared with the magic that created it.”
The Emberwing offered Aurelian one golden apple.
“Take this, not as a treasure, but as a promise.”
The Return of the Emberwing
When Aurelian returned to Aurenglade, he did not return as a conqueror.
He returned as a student.
The Sunfruit was restored.
The orchards bloomed brighter than ever before.
And Pyrralis returned to the skies above the kingdom, no longer seen as a creature to be captured, but as a guardian of ancient balance.
The Tsar praised his heir not for defeating the Emberwing.
But for having the wisdom to listen.
The Legacy of Pyrralis
Generations passed, but the legend remained.
Pyrralis became a symbol throughout Grimmveil of wisdom, restraint, and respect for all magical beings.
Aurenglade became known as a sanctuary of enchanted orchards, where future heirs learned that magic could never truly be controlled.
Only honored.
Some say that when the first Sunfruit ripens each year, a streak of golden fire crosses the southern skies.
Some say it is only a bird.
Others know better.
For Pyrralis, the Emberwing, still watches over Grimmveil.
And those who seek to take from the magic of the world are always reminded of the same ancient lesson:
"What is magical cannot be conquered.
It must be respected."
The End.
