The Legend of the Moonflute
A Grimmveil Legend ⚜️
Long ago, in the shadowed hills of Silverthorn, a kingdom of evergreen spires and mist-swirled valleys, two brothers lived in the House of Loryn. The elder, Garron, was ambitious and proud, with a streak of envy that blackened his heart. The younger, Eryndor, was clever, brave, and favored by the spirits of the forest for his courage.
One autumn, a terrible beast descended from the northern wastes. It had eyes like molten stone and claws that scarred the silver trees. The villagers begged for a hero, and Eryndor, unafraid, took up his blade of moon-steel and tracked the creature to its lair in the Hollow of Whispering Stones. He slew it with skill and honor, claiming its heart as proof.
Garron, jealous that all praise fell upon his younger brother, hatched a dark plan. One night he lured Eryndor into the forest under the guise of celebration. There, beneath a twisted oak, he struck his brother down, hiding the body beneath the roots where the silver moss grew thickest.
For a time, Garron rejoiced, thinking his path to power secure. But Thorneveil has a way of whispering the truth.
The forest spirits, loyal to the courage and honor of Eryndor, took pity. From his remains they crafted a small flute from the young brother’s bones, polished smooth with moonlight and enchanted with their sorrow. When the first wind of winter passed through the valley, the flute sang.
Its melody drifted through every hall, village, and field of Silverthorn, and its notes told the story of the murder. Every villager who heard it knew the truth. Garron tried to flee, but the forest itself conspired against him. Paths twisted, rivers turned back, and shadows of the Hollow of Whispering Stones pursued him.
In the end, justice found him. He vanished into the northern wastes, never to return, while Eryndor’s spirit was honored and remembered. The Moonflute became a symbol of truth and justice across Silverthorn, played during trials and festivals to remind all that deeds, dark or noble, are never truly hidden.
Even now, when the northern wind flows through Silverthorn’s silvered forests, the haunting song of the Moonflute carries, warning of envy, celebrating courage, and ensuring that justice will always rise from the bones of the brave.
