The Legend of Rumelthir, Weaver of Shadows

A Grimmveil Legend ⚜

Long before the great cities of Grimmveil reached toward the skies, before the courts recorded every bloodline and every magical oath, the northern lands were ruled by ancient forests, forgotten kingdoms, and secrets buried beneath the snow.

Beyond the frost-covered cliffs of Frostveil and the haunted thickets of Ashenwood, there lived a merchant lord whose hunger for wealth knew no limit.

His name has faded from history.

But the consequences of his greed remain.

For greed has a way of calling to the shadows.

And the shadows answered with Rumelthir, Weaver of Shadows.

The Trickster of the Fallen Moon

Rumelthir was unlike any being known across Grimmveil.

Some legends claimed he was born from a fallen piece of the moon, given form by ancient magic. Others believed he was the last surviving heir of a forgotten Silverveined bloodline touched by chaos itself.

No record could agree on the truth.

Perhaps that was exactly how Rumelthir preferred it.

His copper-colored hair shimmered like fire beneath moonlight. His eyes, one green and one amber, carried the look of someone who knew more than he ever revealed. He walked through the world like a storm wearing a smile.

Where Rumelthir traveled, impossible things followed.

Shadows whispered.

Doors opened without being touched.

Promises became dangerous.

And bargains always came with a price.

The Merchant’s Impossible Promise

The merchant lord had one daughter, Selara.

Unlike her father, Selara valued wisdom above riches. She was clever, observant, and carried the quiet strength of her Silverveined ancestors.

But her father’s endless pursuit of wealth had left their household drowning in debt.

Desperate to save his fortune, the merchant spread a rumor throughout the kingdom.

His daughter could spin straw into gold.

Of course, Selara possessed no such ability.

She had never performed such magic.

But rumors travel quickly, and eventually they reached the ears of Rumelthir.

One evening, as the candles burned low in the merchant’s hall, a stranger appeared from the shadows.

A stranger with a knowing smile.

“I hear you desire gold,” Rumelthir said.

Selara studied him carefully.

“And what do you desire in return?”

Rumelthir smiled.

“Ah. A clever one.”

He stepped closer, shadows curling around his boots.

“All magic requires exchange. All wishes require payment. The question is not what you receive.”

His eyes gleamed.

“It is what you are willing to lose.”

Despite her hesitation, Selara accepted his bargain.

With a sweep of his hand, shadows and golden fire surrounded the room.

The worthless straw transformed into shining threads of gold, each strand glowing like captured sunlight.

The impossible had happened.

But impossible things always leave a mark.

The Price of a Secret

When the time came for Rumelthir to collect his payment, Selara prepared herself.

She offered jewels.

Silver.

Ancient treasures.

Rumelthir only laughed.

“Gold for gold? Trinkets for a promise? You still do not understand.”

The shadows around him moved like living creatures.

“I do not desire what can be bought.”

He leaned closer.

“I want what cannot be replaced.”

Selara’s expression hardened.

“What?”

“Your true name.”

The hall fell silent.

For in Grimmveil, names carried power.

A true name was more than a word.

It was identity.

History.

The thread connecting a soul to the world.

Rumelthir could twist bargains, command shadows, and weave illusions.

But true names were different.

Even the greatest tricksters had weaknesses.

The Keeper of Names

Selara escaped into the night, carrying only her courage and the knowledge that she needed more than strength to defeat Rumelthir.

She traveled to Crimsonfall, seeking answers within the ancient archives where forgotten bloodlines, magical contracts, and the names of legendary beings were recorded.

Among the endless shelves of moonlit tomes, Selara discovered the truth.

Rumelthir’s name had been hidden for centuries.

Not because it was forgotten.

Because it was dangerous.

The true name of the Weaver of Shadows held the power to reveal him, to strip away his illusions, and to break the chains of every bargain he had ever created.

Armed with knowledge instead of a weapon, Selara returned.

The Unraveling of the Weaver

Rumelthir appeared within the merchant’s hall, expecting fear.

Instead, he found Selara waiting.

“You came back,” he said.

“I did.”

“And you brought payment?”

Selara smiled.

“I brought the truth.”

The shadows trembled.

“You are Rumelthir,” she declared, her voice echoing through the chamber.

“The Weaver of Shadows.”

The candles flickered.

“Child of the Fallen Moon.”

The walls shook.

“Master of bargains, secrets, and chaos.”

Rumelthir’s smile disappeared.

For the first time in centuries, someone had spoken the words he feared.

His shadows began to unravel.

His illusions shattered.

The magic he had used to control others turned against him, collapsing into a storm of gold and darkness.

Rumelthir vanished into the northern forests, leaving behind only his shadow-woven cloak and the echo of his laughter.

Some say he fled.

Some say he simply grew bored.

And some say he still wanders Grimmveil, searching for those foolish enough to bargain without understanding the cost.

The Legacy of Rumelthir

The tale of the Weaver of Shadows became one of the oldest warnings told throughout Grimmveil.

Children were taught never to accept a gift without asking its price.

Scholars studied Rumelthir as the first great example of the Trickster Court of Crimsonfall, a mysterious tradition of beings who tested mortals, Silverveined, and even the ancient fey through bargains and impossible choices.

Selara’s descendants became known as the Keepers of Names, guardians of magical contracts and protectors of secrets too powerful to fall into careless hands.

Even now, when someone finds unexpected fortune, when a stranger offers an impossible solution, or when shadows whisper beneath the moonlight, the people of Grimmveil remember the old legend.

Because Rumelthir’s greatest lesson was never about gold.

It was about wisdom.

For every bargain has a price.

Every gift carries a shadow.

And even the darkest magic can be overcome by the one thing no trickster can steal:

The knowledge of who you truly are.
