The Legend of Prince Caelmir of the Glasshold

A Grimmveil Legend ⚜️

Long ago, when the northern rivers of Grimmveil ran silver under a moon that was still young, there was a prince named Caelmir.

He was tall, with hair like spun starlight and eyes the color of amethyst dusk. Brave, clever, and handsome, he was beloved in the courts of the Starveined lords. But vanity and curiosity are dangerous companions in Grimmveil, and Caelmir courted both too openly.

The Curse

In the deep forest of the Moonveil, there lived a sorceress of the hidden ways: Myrivelle, the Crystal Enchantress. She was a collector of beauty and essence, a dark fae who loved to trap life in shining prisons.

When Caelmir wandered into her forest, chasing a golden stag rumored to carry the first light of dawn, she saw him and smiled, sharp and cold.

“Ah, a star in mortal flesh,” she whispered. “Perfect for my gallery.”

With a single wave of her silvered staff, she encased him in a tower of enchanted crystal, a prism so pure that light bent around him, showing every side of his face and every secret of his soul. His form was frozen, yet he could see, could think, could feel, eternally aware but eternally trapped.

From the outside, he appeared serene, a statue of perfect beauty. Inside, he was suffocating in time.

Myrivelle did not intend to kill him. That would be simple. She intended a game, a test of heart:

  • No mortal strength could shatter the glass.
  • No silver sword could pierce the magic.
  • Only true devotion, selfless courage, and recognition of one’s own shadow could free him.

Years passed. The stars above the tower changed, the moon waxed and waned, and rumors grew: “The Crystal Prince waits for a soul brave enough to see beyond reflection.”

The Maiden of the Silver Lake

Then came Eryndra, a mage of the Silverveined lineage, who had heard whispers of the prince while gathering herbs in the Moonveil. She was fierce, clever, and unafraid of shadows.

When she reached the Crystal Tower, she did not speak. She studied the reflections, watched the bending light, and saw the truth:

  • Caelmir was trapped not by force, but by pride and fear.
  • The crystal mirrored his soul, and only a heart untangled from selfish desire could guide him free.

Eryndra took her staff and traced the lines of the prism, chanting the lost songs of the Moonveil.
She placed her hand on the smooth surface, whispering truths to him, not promises, not pity.

At first, the crystal resisted.
Then cracks appeared, not jagged, but like rivers of moonlight.

Caelmir’s body was released, falling into the lake below, soaking in starlight. His eyes opened to meet hers, not with gratitude, but with recognition:

  • He had learned patience.
  • He had learned humility.
  • He had learned to see beyond surface beauty.

Myrivelle appeared one last time, a ripple of shadow across the lake:
“You have earned him, mage. But beware: no shadow dies in Grimmveil.”
And then she vanished, leaving only the crystal shards glittering like stars in the moonlight.

Prince Caelmir never returned to vanity. He wandered the forests of Grimmveil, teaching respect for shadow, courage, and reflection.

The tower remained for centuries, a monument in the Moonveil, and mortals would tell tales of:

  • The shimmering prism on the lake’s edge
  • The Crystal Prince who waits for a worthy soul
  • The mage who saw him truly, beyond the mirror

Even now, on the darkest nights, the lake glows faint silver, and travelers swear they see a figure trapped just beneath the surface, waiting to be understood.
